Understanding the benchmark

What is Color Reaction?

Color Reaction combines response speed with a four-choice decision. After a random wait, a large red, blue, green, or yellow cue appears. Identify it and select the matching labeled button. It is a general browser benchmark, not a scientific or diagnostic assessment.

How is it different from Reaction Time?

Reaction Time asks you to respond to one simple signal. Color Reaction adds identification and choice: you must decide which signal appeared and activate the corresponding fixed-position control.

Trial flow

How does the test work?

Choose 10, 20, or 30 rounds. Every trial uses a random 1–2.5 second wait and an independently selected color. One response completes a cue. Correct answers, wrong choices, and five-second timeouts advance the round; false starts retry the same round.

This benchmark depends on distinguishing the displayed colors. Results may not be directly comparable for users with different color-perception needs. It is not a color-blindness test.

How is Average Decision Time calculated?

Only correct trials contribute. For correct times of 400, 450, 350, and 400 milliseconds:

400 + 450 + 350 + 400 = 1,600 ms

1,600 ÷ 4 = 400 ms average

A run with no correct answers displays a dash instead of an invalid average or classification.

Choice accuracy

How is accuracy calculated?

Accuracy includes every completed cue, including wrong choices and timeouts. Eighteen correct responses from twenty completed trials produce:

18 ÷ 20 × 100 = 90.0% accuracy

What is a false start?

Pressing a color before the cue appears is a false start. It does not count as a completed trial or reveal the upcoming color. The same round begins again with a fresh unpredictable wait.

Context matters

Why can results differ?

Device hardware, touchscreen or mouse input, display latency, attention, familiarity with fixed button positions, distractions, and fatigue can all change a completed result.

What is Color Reaction?+

How is Average Decision Time calculated?+

How is accuracy calculated?+

Accuracy is correct completed trials divided by all completed trials, multiplied by 100.

What happens if I choose the wrong color?+

That trial ends immediately, counts as incorrect, and shows the correct answer before the next randomized wait.

What is a false start?+

A false start is a response before the cue appears. It does not complete the trial; the same round restarts with a fresh random delay.

What happens if I do not respond?+

After five seconds the trial is recorded as a timeout and an incorrect response, then the test continues.

Why do I get the same color twice in a row?+

Each cue is generated independently, so consecutive repeated colors are valid.

Can I play on a phone?+

Yes. The four labeled responses use a touch-friendly 2×2 layout on smaller screens.

Are touchscreen and mouse results comparable?+

Input hardware and display latency can differ, so use the same device when comparing personal results.

Does a lower reaction time always mean a better result?+

No. Personal bests prioritize accuracy before speed so fast random guessing is not rewarded.

Why does accuracy affect my personal best?+

A balanced decision result should identify colors correctly. Higher accuracy wins first, followed by lower correct-response time and fewer false starts.

Is this a color-blindness test?+

No. This is not a color-blindness, medical, neurological, or diagnostic test.
