Memory benchmark

Sequence Memory

Watch the pattern, then repeat the sequence in the same order. Each successful level adds one more step.

Level 1Sequence length: 1

Sequence Memory

Watch carefully and repeat the pattern.

Watch the complete pattern, then tap or click the tiles in the same order. Playback inputs are ignored.

Understanding the benchmark

What is Sequence Memory?

Sequence Memory is a growing visual recall challenge. ReflexMint flashes one tile at a time, then asks you to reproduce the complete pattern in the same order. The benchmark is designed for personal comparison and entertainment, not for medical, neurological, diagnostic, or IQ conclusions.

How does the test work?

Level 1 begins with one tile. Every completed level appends one random tile while preserving all previous steps, and the full sequence plays again from the beginning. Repeat it exactly. The first wrong tile ends the attempt.

The score

How is the score calculated?

The final score is the highest level reproduced completely and in order. For example:

Levels 1–8 completed

Mistake on Level 9

Final score: 8 levels

The failed level is stored separately and is never added to the final score.

Growing patterns

One new step at a time

The sequence is not regenerated between levels. Each successful round keeps the previous pattern intact and adds exactly one new random position. A tile may appear more than once, even in consecutive steps.

Playback becomes only slightly faster at longer levels, keeping high-level sequences clear without making early rounds unnecessarily slow.

Context matters

Why can results differ?

Concentration and distractions. Interruptions can make individual steps or their order harder to retain.

Screen size and input. Viewing distance, tile size, and input method can affect comfort.

Playback pace. Different sequence lengths can feel easier or harder at the benchmark’s set pace.

Fatigue and strategy. Results can change with tiredness, repetition, and how you group the pattern mentally.

Improve consistency

Tips for consistent results

  • Keep the benchmark tab visible throughout playback and input.
  • Watch the whole sequence before beginning your response.
  • Avoid clicking early while the pattern is still playing.
  • Use the same device when comparing personal results.
  • Reduce nearby distractions before starting an attempt.
  • Take breaks between repeated attempts.
Sequence Memory does not measure IQ and should not be used for medical, cognitive, or diagnostic conclusions.

Common questions

Sequence Memory FAQ

What is Sequence Memory?+

Sequence Memory is a browser challenge that shows a growing pattern of tiles and asks you to repeat every step in the same order.

How is my score calculated?+

Your score is the highest level you completed fully. If you complete Level 8 and make a mistake on Level 9, your score is 8 levels.

Does each level add one more tile?+

Yes. Every successful level preserves the existing pattern and appends exactly one new random tile.

Can the same tile appear twice in a row?+

Yes. Repeated tiles are valid, including the same tile appearing in consecutive steps.

What happens if I click during playback?+

Tile input is locked while the pattern is playing. Clicks or taps during playback are ignored and do not fail the attempt.

What happens if I choose the wrong tile?+

The attempt ends immediately. The failed level is shown separately and does not count toward your completed-level score.

Can I play on a phone?+

Yes. The responsive 3×3 grid supports touch, mouse, and stylus input and remains square on smaller screens.

Why did the test pause when I changed tabs?+

Leaving the tab during playback or input cancels the attempt because you may have missed part of the pattern or interrupted the recall conditions.

Is Sequence Memory an IQ test?+

No. It is a casual ReflexMint memory benchmark, not an IQ test, medical assessment, neurological test, or diagnostic tool.

Does a higher level mean a better score?+

Within this benchmark, a higher completed level is better. Results can still vary with concentration, device, fatigue, playback pace, strategy, and distractions.
